Practical guidance · examples to adapt · not legal or financial advice
1. Identify the relationship
If a partner earns commission or receives another material benefit for a recommendation, ask them to make that relationship clear where they recommend the business. Exact duties depend on applicable law and context.
2. Use straightforward language
Illustrative wording: “I may earn a commission if you make a qualifying purchase through my link.” Adapt it to the real relationship. Do not describe a paid recommendation as entirely independent.
3. Keep it near the recommendation
Avoid burying important disclosures only in a profile or distant terms page. Consider the medium, visibility and audience; this software does not certify legal compliance.
4. Avoid invented claims
No fake testimonials, guaranteed savings/returns, impersonation or fabricated purchase records. Partners should use current merchant-approved reward details and location rules.
5. Review and document
Businesses review partners and program terms. Check appropriate legal guidance for intended markets. Customer noncash referrals are a different program and may also require transparent terms; this guide is not legal advice.
