Practical guidance · examples to adapt · not legal or financial advice
1. Start with the referrer
Choose a concrete noncash benefit the existing customer receives after a genuine new friend’s qualifying first paid purchase. Avoid vague “rewards” that staff cannot interpret.
2. Decide on the friend benefit
A welcome item or discount is optional. Keep it separate from the referrer reward, with its own qualifying conditions and register fulfillment.
3. Define a new customer
Use the program’s first-paid-purchase rules. Self-referrals, fabricated identities and duplicate qualification are ineligible. Clicks and enrollment alone do not create the reward.
4. Set up and review
On Rise or Summit choose Refer a friend in Programs or Milo. Edit the reward, merchant terms and scope, save a draft and launch separately as owner. Spark remains loyalty-only.
5. Share and confirm
The enrolled customer shares a personal referral link. The new customer enrolls and presents a private pass; staff confirms the qualifying paid purchase. Review the resulting reward and fulfill it under the merchant’s terms.
